I Wonder… What We Will Discover on Our Sound Hunt?

Materials:

• Letter cards (e.g., s, m, t, b, p)

• Small baskets or bags

• Objects around the classroom (e.g., spoon, book, toy, ball)

• Table or mat for sorting

Instructions:

• Introduce a few letter sounds (e.g., “sss”, “mmm”, “buh”) and show the matching letter cards

• Invite children to go on a sound hunt around the classroom to find objects

• Ask children to say the object name slowly and listen for the beginning sound

• Bring objects back to the table and match each one to the correct letter card

• Review together by saying the sounds and words aloud (e.g., “b-b-ball goes with b”)
