Small baskets or bags
Objects around the classroom (e.g., spoon, book, toy, ball)
Table or mat for sorting
Instructions:
Introduce a few letter sounds (e.g., “sss”, “mmm”, “buh”) and show the matching letter cards
Invite children to go on a sound hunt around the classroom to find objects
Ask children to say the object name slowly and listen for the beginning sound
Bring objects back to the table and match each one to the correct letter card
Review together by saying the sounds and words aloud (e.g., “b-b-ball goes with b”)
