Materials:
Coloured pasta (different shapes and colours)
String or yarn (cut to necklace length)
Tape (to wrap the end of the string for easier threading)
Small bowls or trays for sorting pasta
Optional: pattern cards for inspiration
Instructions:
Place coloured pasta in small bowls and give each child a piece of string with tape on the end.
Introduce patterns: Show a simple ABAB pattern such as red–blue–red–blue and ask children what comes next.
Extended Challenge: try complex patterns such as: ABBA patterns
Children thread pasta onto their string to make their own pattern necklace.
Encourage thinking: Ask children to explain their pattern or predict what piece should come next.
