How Many Things Can you Count in the Story

Materials:

• Tree Counts by Trish Holland (book or video read-aloud)

• Ten frames for each child

• Small counters or objects to place on the ten frame

Instructions:

• Listen to the book, pausing to explore objects and numbers.

• Encourage children to notice, point to, or identify objects and amounts as they appear.

• Help children show quantities on their ten frames using counters or by pointing.

• Discuss numbers, patterns, and quantities observed, inviting children to repeat favorite parts of the story.
