Instructions:
Begin by introducing the words "fair" and "unfair" to the kids. Use thumbs up for "fair" and thumbs down for "unfair." Encourage the kids to repeat these words with you while also using the corresponding hand gestures.
Next, role-play with puppets to show how it looks to play unfairly. Use magnetic pieces, where one puppet has a lot of pieces and the other puppet asks for some but only receives a few.
Pause the role-play and make powerful interactions. Engage them in a conversation about fairness and ask for their thoughts on how they would solve this situation. Encourage them to think about fairness.
For the next role play, both puppets will have half of the magnetic pieces. However, in this case, only one puppet gets to take a turn.
Stop and make powerful interactions to ask them how they can play fairly together.
After discussing possible solutions, act out the final result based on the children’s ideas for fair play.
Now, let the children pair up with a friend and practice playing fairly with each other. Provide them with the same magnetic pieces or other materials that require sharing and taking turns. As they play, encourage them to practice the concepts of fairness by allowing each person a fair amount and taking turns as they play.
