What Fun Ways Can You Move to the Numbers

Materials:

• Outdoor space

• Chalk

• (Or) Foam numbers

Instructions:

• In a group of 3-4 ask children to take turns

• First guide them by asking them what numbers are they jumping on

• Then ask them to say the numbers as they jump on them

• To make it more engaging:

  • Ask them to jump on specific numbers (i.e. “jump on 4”, so they would have to skip the previous numbers and try to hop straight onto number 4)

• Get the children to instruct each other; taking turns and leading the game

• Can you show me that number with your fingers?

• What number comes after this one?

• Can you teach a friend how to hop to this number?

• Which number is bigger? Which is smaller?

• How many hops do you need to get to this number?

• If you start at 2, how many more jumps to reach 5?

• What else could we do with our number hopscotch?
