Obj. 8a, 9a, 11a-e, 12b, 22a, 37, 38
Materials:
Plastic wrap
Rice/small grains/salt/sugar
Pot, container, or table surface
Bowl or cup of water
Spoon or small stick (for tapping)
Instructions:
Take children to a table or open classroom space.
Stretch plastic wrap over a bowl and sprinkle a few grains of rice/salt/sugar on top.
Tap or speak near it and let the children observe the movement.
Invite children to connect sound with observation:
Loud sound = bigger movement
Soft sound = smaller movement
Fast tapping = more movement
Enrichment:
Place a bowl of water where everyone can see clearly.
Ask children to observe the water surface before making any sound.
Gently tap a nearby object (table, pot, or container).
Invite children to watch closely and describe what happens to the water.
Repeat using different sound levels:
Soft tapping
Loud tapping
Introduce comparison:
Quiet vs. loud
Slow vs. fast tapping
Powerful InterACTions PK3:
What do you notice when we make a sound?
Is the rice/sugar moving or still?
What happens when we tap softly?
What happens when we tap loudly?
Can you make the water or rice move again?
Which sound made the biggest movement?
Powerful InterACTions PK4:
How does the sound change the water’s movement?
How does changing the sound (loud/soft) change the movement?
What happens when we tap faster or slower?
Can you compare what happened with the rice/sugar and the water?
Why do you think the water/rice moves when we make sound?
