Cereal Sort

Obj. 13, 20b.

Instructions:

  1. Warm up: Listen to Count with me from 1-20 on the Paw-dcast!

  2. Gather your materials: Small bowl of cereal with several colors (Fruit Loops work well).

  3. Sort the cereal by color.

  4. Count how many of each color you have.

  5. Compare the numbers and figure out which color has the most and which has the least.

  6. Try again with another small bowl.

Enrichment:

  1. Make a drawing of your discoveries.

InterACTions:

  • Let’s predict, which color do you think has the most? The least?

  • Let’s estimate, how many (insert color) do you think there are?

  • How are you going to sort the cereal?

  • Show me what you’re thinking!

  • How many are in each group?

  • Oh, that’s a great idea - touch the piece of cereal as you are counting!

  • Was our prediction correct? What about our estimation of the number of red ones?
