Working on Shapes

Instructions:

  1. Gather salt or sand, tray and sentence strips.

  2. Gather a tray and place the salt or sand in it

  3. Start by laying the shapes next to the tray

  4. Let your child form the shapes in the tray by first looking at the suggested shapes

  5. Challenge: Can you add a different shape? Can you create your own?

InterACTions:

  • What should we start with?

  • What materials do you think we need to gather?

  • Mmmm now that we have all the materials, what do you think we should do next?

  • Which shape would you like to practice first?

  • Can we try to cover the shapes and you recreate any?

  • Would you like to try making a different shape?

  • What do you think this shape looks like? Can you describe this other shape?

  • Which one looks longer to you? Shorter?
